PRINCE MEMORIAL HELD AT JEHOVAH WTNESS HALL
Prince protege Sheila E and members of his band 3rdEyeGirl were among the hundreds who remembered the pop icon in a private ceremony in his church near Minneapolis.
Mourners dressed in black could be seen entering the Kingdom Hall temple in the suburb of Minnetonka on Sunday.
The service was closed to the media but there is a local television station KARE cited the printed program as saying the star of "find great joy and satisfaction in sharing the things he learned from the Bible with others".
The prince was baptized as a Jehovah's Witness in 2003 and was reported to have even knocked on the doors of his hometown to distribute religious literature.The singer, who was known for his strength on stage and a healthy diet, died suddenly 21 April at his Paisley park estate in the Minneapolis suburb of Chanhassen.
His family met there two days later when his body was cremated, according to the singer representatives.But his sister, Tyka Nelson, said Friday he did not consider that "intimate gathering" being her funeral and the family was still planning a public event.
"The proposed plan is to have our Memorial / Funeral / Tribute in August," he wrote on Facebook, adding that the remains of Prince would be present at the next event.
"The prince and his music influenced so many people who feel inspired to celebrate his life and legacy in the right way," he wrote.
Investigators have not released the cause of death for the prince, but doctors were treating him for a dependency on painkillers.
