JAMIE VARDY WINS EPL BEST PLAYER OF 2015/2016 SEASON
Jamie Vardy has won the Barclays Player of the Season award after playing a role in the Barclays Premier League title Leicester City.
The 29-year-old striker scored 24 goals and provided six assists in 35 games this season, helping the Foxes to their first BPL crown, and won the award for the first time.
Vardy beat competition from Wes Morgan teammates, Riyadh Mahrez, N'Golo Kante and Kasper Schmeichel and Tottenham Hotspur trio of Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Toby Alderweireld, West Ham United midfielder Dimitri Payet and Mesut Ozil of Arsenal.
He established a scoring record in 11 successive matches BPL's 1-1 draw with Manchester United on November 28, breaking the mark set by Ruud van Nistelrooy.
Vardy finished the season strongly with five goals in his last three games.
After winning the Association player of the year's football writers this month, Vardy could claim a hat-trick of honors season if it exceeds the top scorer in the league Harry Kane, who is on 25 goals in Chelsea on Sunday to claim the gold Barclays Startup.
Vardy is only in its second BPL campaign after playing non-league football before passage of Fleetwood Town to Leicester, then in the championship in 2012.
He is the first player from Leicester City Barclays of the season and that means a different club was the winner in the last six campaigns.
Eleven clubs had players win the prize, with Manchester United (eight) pick up the most.
